Welcome to the recently refurbished Westgate Inn, Winchester. The Inn has operated since 1877 when the railways extended their network from London. At that time a trip to the West Country could take more than two days and journeys needed to be broken along the way. Now the journey is merely an hour from London, and so Winchester forms a perfect base from which to travel to other destinations in the South. Much enjoyed by both business travellers and tourists alike. The relaxed atmosphere of the bar and wonderful home cooked menu featuring fresh, seasonal, local produce makes the Inn a popular spot. Helen Sutherland, the proprietor is the ex-chairman of hugely successful county food group Hampshire Fare she maintains the high standards required of the organisation. Guests return again and again having enjoyed the warm welcome and comfortable rooms. All the bedrooms have recently been redecorated as has the bar and the exterior. The communal stairways and landings are currently being decorated. All the bedrooms are on the first or second floor and can be independantly accessed from the street. Due to the historic construction of the building there is no access to accommodation floors by any other means than the stairs. We are conveniently located at the top of the High Street overlooking the medieval Westgate. The Inn is a short walk from the railway station and Tower Street multi-storey car park. Access from the M3 and A34 is simple. Winchester is a hugely popular destination with its beautiful Cathedral and architecture. King Arthurs Legendary Round Table situated in the Great Hall, is just a stones throw away from our doorstep. Winchester attracts people of all ages as it has so much to offer - all within easy walking distance. The ancient city and the original capital of Wessex boasts the best of both worlds combining historical buildings with contemporary/boutique shopping, award winning eateries and breath taking scenery.
