LOCATION:
Trevi nel Lazio is an ancient pre-Roman town in the Regional Park of Monti Simbruini. Lying in the Upper Valley of Aniene, it is the custodian of an extraordinary cultural, historical and archeological heritage. Outstanding relics lie in the woods that surround it but just as important is the Caetani Castle, where the tower gives an excellent view of the magnificent surrounding valley. A seventeenth century organ can be found in the Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, its rich, harmonious sound enlivening classical music concerts of international repute during the summer. Outside the walls, there is the Cappella della Madonna del Riposo, built during the papacy of Sixtus IV, and the Cappella di San Sebastiano. The latter chapel is entirely covered with frescos and was known as “the poor man’s Sistine Chapel” because of its great beauty. Trevi also offers the opportunity to really be immersed in nature in the Nature Park of Monti Simbruini, the largest nature reserve in Lazio, which includes the wildlife area of Capriolo and the Plant Museum, the waterfall formed by the river Aniene and springs of mineral water with health-giving properties. Sporty types can take to the air with a hang-glider in Serrone or ski at Campo Staffi.
